President Levits reiterated his statement in the UN General Assembly that Latvia will continue to support Georgia’s territorial integrity. President Zourabichvili thanked Latvia for the understanding and the provided support.
President Zourabichvili reflected on Georgia’s recent progress, especially in reforming its judiciary. Presidents of both countries also touched upon the strengthening of EU’s Eastern Partnership and Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration.
Another focus of the meeting was forthcoming Georgian Chairmanship of the Council of Europe (CoE) and protests of nine CoE member states, including Latvia, against decision to return the right to vote in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to Russia.
Presidents of Latvia and Georgia discussed bilateral relations and expressed their satisfaction at the growing tourism between the two countries due to direct flights connecting Latvia and Georgia.
