The Parliament plays a key role in achieving faster progress of reform legislation,” stated President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis when meeting with the President of the Parliament of Moldova Mr Andrian Candu in the Riga Castle on Monday, December 4.
He called on Moldova to use all the possibilities offered by the Association Agreement and the support that the EU provides to Moldova aimed at promoting the growth of the country and prosperity of the people. In its turn, the Document 2020 recently approved at the EU Eastern Partnership Summit in Brussels states that the Eastern collaborates of the European Union should be able to do their homework through the implementation of complicated reforms. It also provides for broader EU support and funding if the planned progress is achieved.
During the meeting, the officials noted the close bilateral cooperation and the active exchange of visits between the two countries. There are excellent opportunities to deepen co-operation in strategic communication, high-quality journalism and media literacy, as well as to use the benefits of the agreement recently signed on cultural cooperation.
The President of Latvia emphasised that Latvia would continue supporting the reforms in Moldova while implementing development cooperation projects. Latvia is currently implementing projects in the areas of regional and rural development, justice, good governance and the rule of law, border security, as well as support for small and medium-sized enterprises. The experts from Latvia also are working in several Twinning programs aimed at supporting Moldova.
