It is important to continue the progress in rebuilding that has been launched to achieve the goals set, as President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis emphasised while meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday, January 17.
The President of Latvia confirmed that Latvia appreciated the progress of Georgia in the reform process. “The practical implementation of reforms must be continued, especially in the fields of justice, the rule of law, good governance, and economics. The Parliament plays a crucial role in a transparent and inclusive decision-making process,” stated Raimonds Vējonis.
He called on Georgia to continue the process of implementing the Georgia-European Union Association Agreement, as the dynamics of further development of EU-Georgia relations would depend on it. It is essential to demonstrate that the implementation of the Association Agreement ensures economic growth in Georgia and greater prosperity for its population.
Raimonds Vējonis acknowledged that Substantial NATO-Georgia Package (SNGP) is an important tool for strengthening Georgia's defensibility. The President of Latvia acknowledged Latvia’s continued support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.
During the meeting, the officials agreed that 2018 would be a particular year for the relations between Latvia and Georgia, as both countries celebrate their centenary and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic ties.
