stressed President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis while participating in the Summit of the Three Seas Initiative in Brdo, Slovenia, on Thursday, 6 June 2019.
“The better connectivity in the Three Seas countries also requires new infrastructure, and the development of the Rail Baltica project is a priority for the Baltic region. At the same time, modernisation of already existing infrastructure should be encouraged. For example, Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania are jointly developing the Digital Baltic Road project, which envisages the establishment of a 5G mobile network along the part of the Via Baltica highway connecting Tallinn, Riga, and Kaunas,” noted Raimonds Vējonis.
The Three Seas (Adriatic, Baltic, and the Black Sea) Initiative joins 12 countries: Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Hungary. Federal President of Germany Dr Frank Walter Steinmeier, President of European Commission President Mr Jean-Claude Juncker, US Energy Secretary Mr Rick Perry, as well as representatives of the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development attend the Summit as honorary guests.
During the Summit of the Three Seas Initiative, a business forum is convened where the representatives of the Ministry of Transport, the Financial Institution ALTUM, the Electronic Communications Directorate, LMT, and the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry represent Latvia.
From 4 June to 6 June 2019, President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis pays a working visit to the Republic of Slovenia. President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis met with President of Slovenia Borut Pahor at the residence of the President of the Republic of Slovenia in Ljubljana on June 5.
