As President mentioned in his intervention during the discussion, ‘Latvia is one of the greenest countries in Europe. More than 40% of energy is produced from renewables, and more than half of Latvia’s territory is covered in forests’.
‘Latvia is currently working on a tax reform that would support greater sustainability and 2030 and 2050 climate goals. Latvia is also highly active in European Union and United Nations level debate about climate,’ said the President.
Baltic Sea is one of the most polluted seas in the world, therefore Latvia is currently working on new methodologies and initiatives aimed at making Baltic Sea cleaner by using science and technology, added President Levits. Latvia is also ready to share its experience with other countries tackling similar climate challenges.
President and other leaders attending the summit underlined the importance of raising public awareness about climate crisis, pollution and its effects on our lives and climate policy objectives.
