On 7 April, President of Latvia Egils Levits visited Chisinau and met with the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova Mr Igor Gross. During the meeting, President Levits reiterated Latvia’s support for Moldova’s path of European integration. ‘You can always count on Latvia as your ally in Moldova’s progress towards the European Union and future reforms, our experience is always available to you,’ President of Latvia said.
President of Latvia and Speaker of Moldovan parliament discussed regional security and support to Ukrainian refugees. Egils Levits underlined that Latvia has been showing its solidarity with Ukrainian by taking in its refugees and 30 more Ukrainian refugees will be transported from Chisinau Refugee Centre to Latvia today on the same flight as President of Latvia and Latvian delegation.
Speaker Gross emphasised progress made by Moldova and described country’s future judicial reform, good governance and corruption plans. Speaker also emphasised that these plans have the support of parliamentary majority.
Egils Levits and Igor Gross both underlined the need to continue fight against specific types of disinformation. This does, inter alia, require strengthening of media and exchange of experience with European countries on how to limit the disinformation on social media.
