On 28 November, in Dubai, President of Latvia Egils Levits met with a number of high-standing United Arab Emirates (UAE) officials: Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
President of Latvia greeted Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum at the Latvian pavilion by congratulating His Highness on the 50th National Day of UAE on 2 December. Both sides confirmed their intent to work on signing of bilateral investment protection agreement in near future to open additional areas of economic cooperation. Ruler of Dubai expressed his admiration for Latvian culture and innovations, and high quality of Latvian pavilion.
Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan also underlined that he has been deeply impressed by Latvia’s EXPO 2020 DUBAI programme. A surprise performance of a song in Arab by Latvian musicians was a particularly nice surprise of the National Day of Latvia, His Highness told President of Latvia. Crown Prince was interested in Latvia’s investment climate, technological innovations and bilateral trade opportunities. Latvia’s foreign policy priorities were also discussed. President of Latvia presented the Three Seas Initiative and how it will facilitate investments in the development of the region. Minister of State for International Cooperation Her Excellency Reem Ebrahim Al Hashimi also took part in the meeting between the Crown Prince and President of Latvia.
Meeting with Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum focused on economic situation in Latvia and Europe, as well as economic outlook, including measures limiting inflation. Other topics included fight against Covid-19 pandemic. President of Latvia explained how Latvia copes with the pandemic and congratulated UAE on high vaccination coverage and low rate of infections achieved as a result.
