On 23 August, President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs will meet with President of the Republic of Estonia Alar Karis at the Unguriņi-Lilli border crossing point on the Latvia-Estonia border to mark the 35th anniversary of the Baltic Way. Both presidents will give addresses at the Baltic Way commemorative stone, there will also be musical performances and informal discussions with the participants of the event.

In the afternoon, President Rinkēvičs and President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda will attend a ceremony dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Baltic Way in Pasvalys, Lithuania, where both presidents will give addresses. After the event, there will be a bilateral meeting of the presidents and a joint press conference.

The Baltic Way was the most vivid demonstration of the unity of the Baltic peoples in fighting for the restoration of the statehood of the Baltic States 35 years ago.  Approximately 2 million people joined hands to draw international attention to the illegal incorporation of the Baltic States into the USSR and violations of international law. This is a topical issue today when Ukraine is fighting for its right to exist.
