In 2023, President Edgars Rinkēvičs initiated the tradition of visiting the gravesites of the participants of the War of Independence on 11 November. This year, the President of Latvia will be honouring the memory of Valija-Valerija Jansone-Veščūna (1902-1990), a soldier of the 7th Sigulda Infantry Regiment and holder of the Order of Lāčplēsis, at Lielupe Cemetery. V.V. Jansone-Veščūna is one of the three women who were awarded the Third Class of the Order of Lāčplēsis for the courageous actions against the Bermontians.
