On 5 January, Justice Sanita Osipova of the Supreme Court took the oath of office before the President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs.
"Today, a lawyer of the highest calibre, a scientist, a university lecturer – Ms Sanita Osipova – joins the family of Supreme Court judges. Your academic activity and work at the Constitutional Court, as well as your ability to express your opinion and take independent decisions will make a great contribution to the Supreme Court. Latvia must be both legal and fair. The role of the Supreme Court is absolutely clear so that this principle of rule of law and justice is felt by all of us," said President Edgars Rinkēvičs at the ceremony.
