Raimonds Vējonis
At the Latvian Cardiology Centre of Stradiņš Hospital, additional medical examinations of President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis were carried out. Physicians stated a sepsis infection affecting his heart valves. Stradiņš Hospital representatives notified that in their statement.   A team of cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and all involved experts has decided that elimination of the focus of infection is the most important now in order to prevent its further spread, and the way to do this is a cardiac surgery.

Before the surgery, the President of Latvia and his family in a conversation with cardiologists and anaesthetists of Stradiņš Hospital received a detailed explanation about the disease and the procedure of the planned surgery and they agreed to the operation.

After the surgery, the cardiologists and experts involved will provide information on the conduct of the surgery, which could be performed around 15:30 in the afternoon. We kindly ask you to be understanding and take account of the time for the press briefing set by the Hospital.
