Raimonds Vējonis
At the meeting of the National Security Council today, on my initiative, we discussed the issue of the talks taken place in the hotel Rīdzene.

I wish to emphasise unequivocally that such talks are unacceptable and ineligible. Such talks weaken our country.

A strong state is based on openness in decision-making, a strong society, and independent media.

Everyone without exception must work for the benefit of the state and the society, with respect for the country and its people.

Today, at the meeting of the National Security Council, we agreed that the content of those talks and all the events related to it should be evaluated in the light of the new information.

First, I call on everyone, absolutely everyone involved in those events, and especially the officials, to assess their role, explain their actions to the public, and undertake responsibility.

Secondly, I support the establishment of a parliamentary investigation commission and I call on the Members of the Saeima not to delay the establishment thereof.

Thirdly, I call on the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau to conduct a thorough examination of all the talks as qualitatively and as quickly as possible.

Also, the interests of national security of our country require evaluation of the professionalism of the whole process, making proposals for the necessary changes in the long term, and taking appropriate action based on the latter.

Our goal is a strong and legitimate country, where all the officials act in the interests of the state.

The rule of law must be observed not only in the situations when it is favourable and convenient for us. Observing the rule of law is even more important in the situations when we wish to punish someone quickly.

The society has made it clear that these events must not be forgotten and everyone must act by their role and competence.

We are strong enough to make the necessary decisions and act by the interests of the state and the public.
