Raimonds Vējonis
In early December, I set the requirements and urged political parties represented in the Saeima to nominate PM candidates, potential models of coalition, and a vision regarding solution of the issues being significant for the country before the end of the year.

During this time, I have continued to negotiate with the political parties and today, on the final working day, I would like to inform you on my vision regarding the progress of new government formation.

I still consider that forming a stable and capable coalition in this Saeima is possible, which will be able to act decisively and to solve urgent issues of great significance for the development of the country.

During the last parliamentary elections, the centre-right political parties forming the current coalition won an overwhelming majority. The Latvian nation vested its confidence in the political party Unity, the Union of Greens and Farmers, and the National Association to continue their work once again during the elections. My confidence has not changed after the negotiations with the political parties. The coalition must include all those parties.

I gave the opportunity to the political parties to negotiate and to find a model of stable and capable coalition. The political parties did not avail themselves of that opportunity.

A new government requires majority confidence of the Saeima. The political parties represented in the Saeima are responsible for ensuring formation of a stable and capable government in Latvia. Therefore, I call on the political parties to act in a nationally responsible and politically courageous manner.

I am confident that there is many professional persons in the political parties, who are capable of undertaking responsibility. Thus, by using all the rights vested in me by the Satversme, I undertake the initiative to choose a Prime Minister candidate.

I shall address potential candidates next week, by changing the schedule of my upcoming vacation.
