Speech by the President of Latvia Egils Levits at the Presidential Protection Unit standard presentation

Colleagues,

I am delighted to mark the centenary of presidency of Latvia with a presentation of Presidential Protection Unit standard.

I hope it will always fly high and inspire you to serve for the sake of strong and independent Latvian State.

As the President of Latvia, I have always felt safe in the knowledge that I can rely on you, and I know that my predecessors could also count on the same level of support as I have no matter what. We all are grateful for your service. I have no doubt you will carry on with the same sense of responsibility, so that we can always rely on excellent service on your part.

Your Unit protects the presidents and the Riga Castle – one of the symbols of Latvia’s statehood. Thick stone walls are not the only element in the protection of Riga Castle. Our people are the main source of strength and potential that Riga Castle has. And each one of you stands on the front line of Riga Castle’s security and defence.

Thank you to all of you for remaining loyal to Latvia and your service that requires so much. Thank you for the diligence and confidentiality with which you carry out your duties.

You remain loyal to your service day and night – at work and in leisure.
