On 19 May, at Riga Castle, President Egils Levits and Mrs Andra Levite congratulated the winners of the campaign "Looking for a good general practitioner" - general practitioners and general practitioner nurses.
President E. Levits, welcoming the representatives of the health field, said: "The fact that you have been chosen from among patients as the best Latvian family doctors show that you listen to, understand and treat patients. This is an extremely important recognition. We have many problems in medicine and don't usually discuss the good. Still, today we have the opportunity to talk about the good, to highlight those who do good and who, in the eyes of patients, are the doctors who are the standard in healthcare".
The president's spouse, gynaecologist A. Levite, said: "Riga TechGirls is currently running a digital growth masterclass "Making technology understandable" - a programme intended for healthcare professionals. Enthusiastic speakers talk about the possibilities offered by the digital world, such as telemedicine, remote glucose monitoring, remote monitoring of rehabilitation success, and remote pregnancy monitoring. Latvia is not the only country in the world struggling with a shortage of medical staff, which is why telemedicine is increasingly being offered as a complementary method in many countries. Let's be creative, participate in lifelong learning, and learn new methods that digital technologies also offer us! This will help both our patients and ourselves".

This year, the campaign "Looking for a good general practitioner", organised by the "Veselība" edition of the "Dienas žurnāli" publishing house, is being held for the 10th time. From February to April, Latvian people were invited to vote and send letters, stories of their experiences about health professionals - family doctors and nurses - who do their job professionally, are selfless, compassionate and responsive.
