On 29 September, in Maribor, President of Latvia Egils Levits and President of Slovenia Borut Pahor took part in youth discussion “Let’s talk about Europe”, which is one of the Conference on the Future of Europe events.
Heads of both states and youngsters talked about best ways of achieving youth goals at various levels (local, national, regional and European) and what European Union (EU) and its member states need to do encourage future youth participation and civic engagement in Europe.
Egils Levits and Borut Pahor both underlined that discussion on shared values in EU would bring its member states much closer.
Other topics of discussion included social rights, equality, rule of law, democratic processes, climate change and free movement.
More than 200 young people, policy-makers and youth experts from all over Europe gathered in Maribor on 26-30 September to take part in the third and final EU Youth Conference of the 8th EU Youth Dialogue ‘Europe for Youth – Youth for Europe: Space for Democracy and Participation’, which is one of the Conference on the Future of Europe events.
Conference on the Future of Europe kicked off on 9 May 2021 and will end next spring. It is a series of citizen-cantered debates and discussions, which serve as a platform where people from all over Europe can share their ideas and contribute to our common future. With is impressive scale as a pan-European democratic debate, it serves as a new public forum for open, inclusive and transparent citizen discussion on current priorities and challenges.
