On September 1, President of Latvia Egils Levits will attend the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the start of World War II together with other European and world leaders in the Polish capital, Warsaw.
There will be a military held at Pilsudski Square in Warsaw to commemorate the air raids on Polish cities of 1 September 1939.
Egils Levits is taking part in this event to emphasise that World War II was fatal for Europe, including Poland and the Baltic States, and one must do its utmost to strengthen a peaceful and united Europe today.
During the events, meetings are scheduled with the President of Poland and the leaders of other countries. At the end of the day, the President of Latvia will attend a commemorative concert at the Grand Theatre.
