On 15 August President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with representatives of Varakļāni Municipality Council and the principal of Varakļāni High School. Representatives of Varakļāni Municipality discussed with the President of Latvia the vision for the future development of Varakļāni Municipality in the context of access to education and health care, the mechanism of the municipal financial equalisation fund and employment issues.
"Although Varakļāni Municipality has a small population, it is pleasing to note the ability of the municipality to balance the development opportunities and needs of the municipality, if necessary also skilfully cooperate with other neighbouring municipalities. Today, I also discussed with the leadership of Varakļāni Municipality the issues of the school network, housing and employment in the municipality. Despite the daily challenges, Varakļāni Municipality has managed to provide shelter to refugees from Ukraine, fully involving them in the life of the municipality," said President E. Rinkēvičs after his visit to Varakļāni Municipality.
