‘Today I had the opportunity to once again see that Liepāja is a special place in Latvia. It has everything - it is a modern city with healthy ambitions and a global vision. Liepāja's people can and do impress, both with artistic highlights of cultural events and with modern and innovative companies and their services. Liepāja is not only a city of winds, but also a city of creative restlessness. This is evidenced by Liepāja's title as European Capital of Culture 2027. And this would not have been possible without the purposeful support of the Liepāja municipality management, and the work done by the creative and enterprising people of Liepāja and Kurzeme,’ said President Edgars Rinkēvičs at the end of his visit.
During the visit, the President of Latvia took part in a discussion on the role of culture in promoting the growth of the city, the region, and the country with the leadership of the Liepāja State City, South Kurzeme and Kuldīga municipalities, representatives of the culture and non-governmental organisations sector and the team of the ‘Liepāja 2027’ Foundation President Rinkēvičs also assumed the patronage of Liepāja – European Capital of Culture 2027.
