It is envisaged that the Commission will provide support to the President in the implementation of the functions set out in the Constitution of the Republic of Latvia and will develop proposals for strengthening the country's competitiveness in the fields of education, science and entrepreneurship.
"For Latvia to be a prosperous, strong and modern society, it is necessary to significantly increase the pace of our country's economic growth and competitiveness. I see Latvia's competitiveness as part of our security strategy. The more closely we are integrated into global markets, the more secure our country will be. At present, there are obstacles in the interaction between education, science and business that hinder the development of innovation. I believe that one of the main tasks of the Commission will be to develop concrete proposals and best practice recommendations on, for example, reducing various administrative and bureaucratic barriers to strengthen Latvia's competitiveness," President Edgars Rinkēvičs said about the tasks of the Commission.
The President of Latvia has invited the following science, education and business experts to participate in the Commission, appointing Dr.rer.pol. Arnis Sauka as the Chairman of the Commission and members of the Commission in the following composition: Dr.biol. Vita Rovīte, Dr.chem. Elīna Pajuste, Dr.phys. Guntars Kitenbergs, Dr.sc.ing.
