On 22 September, President Edgars Rinkēvičs participated in the ‘Spotlight Latvia 2023’ conference in Boston.
‘Why invest in Latvia? The reasons are clear. Latvia provides a well-developed infrastructure and a well-educated workforce. We have a favourable trading environment and a competitive tax system. Doing business in Latvia provides access to the European Union single market. Latvia is currently working on a number of large-scale projects, including our commitment within the Three Seas Initiative, which will create faster, greener, more digital-oriented and cost-effective connection to the entire European continent.
Rail Baltica, for example, is intended to connect the Baltic countries to the European network via high-speed rail infrastructure. The Via Baltica transport corridor serves as a key link in our region. Latvia is working with its Baltic neighbours and Poland to introduce a comprehensive 5G corridor along these routes. This synergy between transport and digital connectivity demonstrates the Baltic region's ambition for an integrated and technologically advanced future.
Digital infrastructure in Latvia is a good example for others. We are fifth in the European Union in terms of high-capacity network coverage. We have many examples of successful, technologically advanced companies operating in the US,’ underlined Rinkēvičs in his speech.
The President of Latvia also emphasised Latvia's excellence in the biomedical sector and achievements in digital development. E. Rinkēvičs thanked the Latvian-US Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Latvian institutions involved in organising the high-level event.
The conference brought together Latvian and US investors, entrepreneurs, as well as representatives of universities and research centres, with the aim of strengthening the attraction of US investment to Latvia. This year, ‘Spotlight Latvia’ focused on biotechnology, biomedicine and pharmaceuticals, as well as educational excellence.
