On 24 July, the President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs congratulated Jānis Kubilis, the actor of the Latvian National Theatre, officer of the Order of the Three Stars, on his 100th birthday.

With your personality and creative achievements in the art of Latvian theatre and cinema, you have won the most precious thing for an actor - the lasting love of the audience. I sincerely congratulate you on this great anniversary of your life and thank you for your generous life dedicated to the stage and your outstanding contribution to Latvian culture,’ said in the Certificate of Appreciation presented by the President of Latvia to Jānis Kubilis.
During his visit to Jānis Kubilis' summer house in Baltezers, the President of Latvia presented the jubilarian with a rose plant in summer honey colours called Sweet Honey. Apart from theatre art, Janis Kubilis's lifelong passion is gardening and growing roses.
