On 22 September, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with Maura Healey, the governor of the State of Massachusetts, in Boston.
During the meeting, the parties discussed bilateral relations between Latvia and the USA, in particular economic cooperation between two countries, as well as opportunities for cooperation on solar and wind energy projects and improving energy efficiency in housing.
President Rinkēvičs emphasised the opportunity and readiness to strengthen cooperation in the field of digital technology. ‘Latvia and Massachusetts have potential for cooperation in energy, education, and science. It is a pleasure that Latvian universities are already cooperating with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology,’ said E. Rinkēvičs.
The President of Latvia drew attention to the importance of the Latvian community in Boston for Latvia's ties with Massachusetts and invited the Governor of the State of Massachusetts to visit Latvia.
