President Egils Levits today met with the Rector of Riga Technical University (RTU) Tālis Juhna and the Director of RTU Science and Innovation Centre, Vice-Rector for Innovation Liene Briede. During the meeting, RTU representatives presented their vision for the future development of the university and how the new management plans to promote the university's international competitiveness.
The discussion focused in particular on the field of innovation and how innovations created in science universities could be translated into global technologies and commercialised more successfully. The President emphasized that science universities are a crucial link in the transfer of innovation to the economy. "Economic transformation is impossible without the rapid and successful transfer of science and innovation to the economy. This process must not be hindered by any bureaucratic obstacles. On the contrary, we must do everything we can to support it," said E. Levits, discussing the current obstacles to the creation and commercialisation of innovations.
The President of Latvia also congratulated T. Juhna on his appointment as Rector of RTU.
