President Levits and Prime Minister Kariņš talked about remote work of government departments and agencies. Krišjānis Kariņš stressed that 24 March Cabinet Meeting showed that government can still be efficient despite the current circumstances.
During the call, President of Latvia underlined the need to restore normal operation of the parliament as soon as possible. Modern information technologies offer a vast array of communication possibilities. He also added that he maintains close contact with the Speaker of the Saeima Ināra Mūrniece and is well-informed about the current agenda of the parliament.
Egils Levits also urged Prime Minister to appoint a new Minister for Economics as soon as possible. That is an absolute must in given circumstances.
President Levits and Prime Minister Kariņš exchanged views on envisaged government support to healthcare professionals, especially the ones on the front line of ‘war’ against Covid-19. Egils Levits and Krišjānis Kariņš also discussed the possibility of creating a single well-coordinated communication platform for different government departments. Such platform would make interinstitutional crisis response coordination more efficient.
