“Commitment of the Saeima to avoid proposing of hasty, ill-considered and previously not discussed issues during the third reading in the future, as well as to work on solutions so that the public would be more explained about draft laws under discussion in the Parliament and adopted laws is appreciated,” said President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis today, October 21, when meeting with members of the Commission for Legal Environment Improvement.

 

During the meeting with the Commission, Raimonds Vējonis discussed progress of the proposals of the President of Latvia sent to the Saeima on improving the quality of laws. The President of Latvia welcomed willingness of the MPs both to improve legislative practice and to work on improving the legal regulations so that law-making procedures would promote the quality of laws and public confidence in the work of the legislator.

 

“It is important to provide easily accessible, understandable, and reasoned information to the public on legislative choices and considerations, when deciding on the laws, which affect all areas of life and every person in Latvia. It is also important to recognize at the time, when the Parliament decides on the state budget and the accompanying draft laws,” considers the President of Latvia.

 

When discussing the future tasks of the Commission for Legal Environment Improvement, the President of Latvia urged the Commission for Legal Environment Improvement to identify best practices and international experience in lobbying.
