On 23 July, President Edgars Rinkēvičs visited the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) in Riga to meet with the management of the Service, to get acquainted with the work of the EMS Operational Control Centre, to visit the EMS Competence Development Centre and to meet with the staff of the EMS brigades.
“I am honoured to visit the Emergency Medical Service and express my gratitude to the entire staff of the Service for your exemplary professionalism, preparedness, and commitment to service, which you provide ensuring the safety and well-being of every resident in Latvia at all times. The quality and efficiency of the daily work of the Emergency Medical Service's medics and support staff ensures a high level of trust in society and sets an example for preparedness and action in crisis management. I would like to thank the Emergency Medical Service personnel for your heroism, exemplary preparedness, and dedication over the past 15 years,” said President Edgars Rinkēvičs.
During the meeting with the management and staff of the EMS, the President of Latvia also discussed the cooperation of the EMS with other state and local government institutions, such as the National Armed Forces, and the work that has been done thus far to enhance the disaster medicine system (DMS). The DMS is part of the national civil protection system and the national security system. Its planning is integrated into the wider framework of civil protection, national security and other related plans.
