President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis and the First Lady of Latvia Iveta Vējone visited the Garkalne Art and General Education Primary School and Salaspils Secondary School No. 1 on Friday, September 1, congratulating the students and teachers on the Knowledge Day.

The President of Latvia encouraged the students to study and strive for the best results in order to become an example to others instead of resembling others. The first major achievements in learning, sport, and experience in community activities are being made at school exactly, which later encourage achieving even more in one’s personal and professional life.

While visiting the school in Garkalne, the President of Latvia appreciated that the educational establishment demonstrated a creative approach to the learning process by offering both curriculum for general education and vocationally oriented curriculum in arts and music. The school implements the minority education program, which is a successful example of social cohesion as well.

In Salaspils Secondary School No. 1, where a new school block was opened, the President of Latvia acknowledged that the school provided a very diverse education by providing both a high-quality general education curriculum and offering curricula in the humanities and social sciences as well as mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering. A special primary education curriculum for children with learning disabilities is also being implemented.

The President of Latvia emphasised the activities of the Youth Guard units in Garkalne and Salaspils, which confirmed the desire of children and young people to improve themselves by engaging in active social life. “Operating in the Youth Guard, students spend their leisure time actively, they grow up healthy, and sporting, they are ready to make a personal contribution to their region and testify their patriotism of Latvia,” stated Raimonds Vējonis.
