President of Latvia Egils Levits met with Chairperson of the Social and Labour Affairs Committee of the Saeima Andris Skride to discuss topicalities and priorities of the work of the Committee in order to improve the healthcare system in the Riga Castle on August 13.
During the conversation, the President of Latvia and Andris Skride highlighted issues on provision of the quality of medical services in hospitals by emphasising the availability of services in regional medical institutions in particular. The meeting also highlighted the need to introduce an open, fair, and transparent model for hospital management, which could potentially help resolving the issues of funding distribution.
As the improvement of healthcare system in Latvia is one of the priorities of the Saeima, Egils Levits wished the Parliament success and expressed his support for the work done so far.
One should note that both parties also discussed how to encourage the doctors and medical professionals working abroad to return to their homeland and invest their knowledge and skills in the improvement of the Latvian medical sector.
