On 2 march, President of Latvia Egils Levits will visit the Latvian border areas, Gulbene and Balvi regions, to attend national partisan armed resistance remembrance day events in Stompaki and Ukraine support protest. President of Latvia will talk about the importance of national security and Latvia’s solidarity with Ukraine.
2 March 2022 will become the day when Latvia marks national partisan armed resistance remembrance day for the first time in its history. President of Latvia will travel to Stompaki camp in Balvi region to take part in special service and other remembrance day events such as the inauguration of reconstructed bunker-church and memorial post reminding of national partisans buried in Stompaki.
President of Latvia will honour the memory of national resistance movement and promote public awareness about occupation regimes by participating in several security-themed events, such as national defence lesson at the Gulbene Regional Secondary School and Ukraine support rally where Egils Levits will address the residents of Balvi and adjacent settlements. On 2 March, at 18:00, Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments will organise a protest in support of Ukraine. It will simultaneously start in several Latvian municipalities. Local communities are encouraged to come out and show their solidarity with Ukraine.
Regional visit of President of Latvia will include meetings with Gulbene and Balvi regional administrations and business leaders. President and regional representatives will discuss energy independence and sustainability, regional reform, situation in healthcare and other issues. President Levits will also visit a local farm “Ķelmēni” while in Gulbene region.
