On 12 September, the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, paid a working visit to Alūksne municipality. During the visit, Edgars Rinkēvičs met with the leadership of the Alūksne municipality and visited the Ernst Glik Alūksne State Gymnasium and the Alūksne Secondary School. During his working visit, the President of Latvia got acquainted with the operations of the wood particle panels manufacturing company "Cewood" Ltd. in Jaunlaicene parish, and visited the farm "Igaunīši" in Jaunalūksne parish.
"Alūksne municipality is a wonderful, beautiful place in Latvia. Today, during the visit to the Ernst Glik Alūksne State Gymnasium and Alūksne Secondary School, I had the opportunity to observe first-hand the commendable efforts of the Alūksne region's educational specialists in looking out for the needs of both current and future residents and making far-sighted decisions to strengthen access to quality education. It is inspiring to see the clear vision and goals of the municipal leaders for the future of education in Alūksne. The leadership and residents of the municipality know first-hand the realities and demands of living in the border area, so I welcomed the discussions on a wide range of issues, including reducing the bureaucratic burden in state and municipal work, involving residents in important issues and attracting new investment to the municipality of Alūksne. I would like to thank the people of Alūksne for their vision, experience and valuable insights shared during my visit. I will discuss several suggestions from the Alūksne municipality representatives and residents when I meet with policymakers of the respective fields," said President Rinkēvičs.
At the end of the working visit, the President of Latvia gave an interview to the newspaper "Alūksne un Maliena News" and met with the residents of Alūksne municipality.
