Raimonds Vējonis
President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis indicated that it was essential for Latvia to maintain a political dialogue with Israel and a regular exchange of visits between the officials from both countries was highly appreciated during his meeting with the President of the Knesset of the State of Israel Mr Yuli-Yoel Edelstein in the Riga Castle on Monday, September 11. The President of Latvia noted that this year marked the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Latvia and Israel, which was an excellent opportunity to set goals for further cooperation.

 

The President of Latvia emphasised that Israel was a stable trade partner for Latvia. “We believe that there is a potential for developing closer economic cooperation in the fields of food industry, timber industry, ICT, innovative technologies, and health tourism,” stated Raimonds Vējonis. He also pointed to a constant increase in the number of tourists from Israel.

 

The President of Latvia informed the President of the Parliament of Israel about the upcoming events on the occasion of the Centenary of the Republic of Latvia, including a cultural program planned in Israel, and he invited the officials and people from Israel to attend the celebrations in Latvia.
