On 11 March, President of Latvia Egils Levits welcomed representatives of Ukrainian organisations in Latvia to the Riga Castle for a meeting focused on support to Ukraine provided by Latvia and Ukrainian diaspora in Latvia. ‘As we can see,  Ukrainian diaspora in Latvia is well organised and provides structured and coordinated support to Ukraine during Putin’s invasion of Ukraine,’ President of Latvia stressed as he praised Ukrainian organisations for their civic involvement.

Ukrainian organisations explained President Levits how donation campaign is coordinated along with all kinds of support that these organisations are offering to Ukraine in addition to official support extended by Latvian State.

Latvia will continue to actively facilitate long-term international political, economic and financial support to Ukraine provided by states and civic society, stressed Egils Levits. He also emphasised the responsibility of states and societies for countering disinformation spread by Putin’s regime and common efforts to provide unbiased accounts about devastating war in Ukraine. ‘Everyone here in Latvia can support Ukraine by telling all personal, business and international contacts about what is happening in Ukraine,’ he said.

President of Latvia praised Riga Ukrainian Secondary School for efficient and swift response to current situation and taking in Ukrainian refugee children. ‘Ministry of Education and Science and Riga City Council have offered Ukrainian refugee children active support in these grave circumstances and they must continue this vital support in future as well,’ President Levits said.
