He emphasised that Latvia would continue to devote at least 2% of GDP to defence spending and would work on the further enhancement of regional infrastructure to support the additional deployment of US and NATO rotation forces and military exercise in the region.
“We particularly appreciate Latvia’s commitment to providing defence funding at least 2% of the gross domestic product,” said Senator Jeff Flake. He also expressed strong support for US strategic relations with the European allies.
The representatives of the US Congress reiterated the unchallenged US support for the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) and Article 5 of the Washington Treaty.
The broad delegation of the US Congress included representatives of both the Republican and the Democratic Political Parties, including Arizona Senator of Jeff Flake, Tennessee Senator and Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee Bob Corker, New Mexico Senator Tom Udall, Delaware Senator Christopher Coons, and Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Ed Royce.
