"Vocational education opportunities in Augšdaugava Municipality substantially contribute to the growth of the entire region. During my visit to the “Višķi” training site of the Latgale Industrial Technical College, I observed that young people from across Latgale are receiving excellent vocational training. It is encouraging to see that the Augšdaugava Municipality is taking active steps to modernise the school and increase student enrolment. The beautiful Augšdaugava Municipality is a magnificent pearl of Latvian natural heritage with a great potential to become a hub for active tourism and hospitality. It is not only a meeting point between Selija and Latgale, but also between creative, kind and hard-working people of the Augšdaugava Municipality. The municipality’s diverse cultural and historical background, ancient traditions, and stunning natural beauty is a foundation for attracting foreign and domestic tourists, during every season”, said President Edgars Rinkēvičs.
In Augšdaugava Municipality, the President of Latvia became acquainted with the activities of the Višķi crafters village, and enjoyed the view of the Daugava River bends from the observation tower of Vasarģelišķi.
