On 6 May, President of Latvia Egils Levits visited Valmiera region and met with leadership, council and students of Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences (ViA) to discuss the work of the council, studies and development of ViA.
Dr. rer. pol. Arnis Sauka, professor and Chair of the Council of Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, underlined that Council has been given an extremely important task of drafting university’s development strategy that would build on identified strategic specialization areas. Strategic specialization areas would make strategic planning at the university level a lot easier as they would indicate priority research areas and study programmes that a university would like to focus on. It must be a well-considered strategy, said Arnis Sauka.
Acting Rector of Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, Agnese Dāvidsone, presented university’s research projects and emphasised that ViA has created partnerships with local and international counterparts from other universities and industry in all researches programmes.
President asked questions about attraction of students, especially from diaspora abroad, and the selection of new rector.
