On 11 August President Edgars Rinkēvičs paid a visit to the South Kurzeme region and met with entrepreneurs from Grobiņa, Pāvilosta and Aizpute.
‘Although the South Kurzeme region was established very recently, each of the towns I visited today – Grobiņa, Pāvilosta and Aizpute – has managed to preserve its own distinctive character. Meeting with business people from Grobiņa, Pāvilosta and Aizpute and active members of their communities, I was convinced of the untapped opportunities for the development of these towns. All of them have great potential for tourism. For example, Grobiņa is a great tourist destination for the beautiful nature of Latvia, while Pāvilosta is truly Latvia's summer and surfing capital. Aizpute, with its unique history and townscape, still holds great potential for growth, especially in the tourism sector. Apart from the involvement of residents, the active work of the municipality is equally important for the development of the South Kurzeme region, as well as its interest in providing conditions for the economic and welfare growth of the entire region and developing various economic advantages,’ said President Edgars Rinkēvičs after his visit.
In Grobiņa and Aizpute the President of Latvia visited local enterprises, while in Pāvilosta he met with representatives of the tourism sector and fishermen of the Pāvilosta coast, including a visit to the Pāvilosta Regional Research Museum. President Rinkēvičs concluded his working visit to the Southern Kurzeme region by participating in a discussion with the representatives of the Aizpute restoration community.
