On 28 November, during his working visit to Seoul, the capital of the Republic of Korea, President Edgars Rinkēvičs visited the Daan Cancer Lab, a cancer research laboratory of Yonsei University Severance Hospital. The purpose of the visit was to gain insight into the potential for collaboration between Latvia and the Republic of Korea in the field of biomedical and pharmaceutical research.
During the visit to the laboratory, Latvian partners (Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital and Grindeks JSC) and partners from the Republic of Korea (Daan Cancer Lab and Eugene Investment & Securities) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on joint projects in the field of drug development.
"Latvia excels in the production of high-quality chemical substances and pharmaceutical products. These are also among the leading industries in the Republic of Korea. Scientific progress is attained through cooperation. Hence, it is my hope that this partnership and today's meeting will strengthen the ties between Latvia and the Republic of Korea in the field of clinical research," said President Edgars Rinkēvičs.
