On 4 April, President Edgars Rinkēvičs visited the Academic Centre of the University of Latvia. During the visit, President Rinkēvičs met with the new Rector Prof. Gundars Bērziņš, and the leadership team to discuss the University's development plan, progress with ongoing consolidation efforts, as well as current issues related to science and education.
"The University of Latvia is widely recognized as the country's foremost classical university, having played a pivotal role in the development of the education system and the advancement of economic growth. I wish the new Rector every success in strengthening the academic community, providing ample opportunities for young scientists and teaching staff, and fostering even closer collaboration with other universities. I would also encourage experimentation in terms of transforming study programs to provide students with globally relevant and highly sought-after skills and knowledge that will promote the development of Latvia's industries and enhance competitiveness. In the pursuit of excellence, it is crucial to cultivate and preserve our country's language, cultural heritage, and history," said President E. Rinkēvičs.
