On 19-20 November, President Edgars Rinkēvičs will pay a working visit to the State of Israel, where he will meet with President of Israel Isaac Herzog to discuss the current situation in Israel and the region following the Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel on 7 October 2023. The purpose of the visit is to express solidarity with the people of Israel, the fight against the Hamas terrorist organisation and to prevent a wider escalation of the security and humanitarian situation in the region.
During his visit, President Rinkēvičs also plans to visit the West Bank, where he will meet with the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas. The purpose of the visit to the West Bank is to discuss with the legitimate Palestinian representation ways to prevent further escalation of violence and humanitarian catastrophe in the region, as well as to support the Palestinians in meeting their humanitarian needs.
The President of Latvia will also meet with representatives of the Latvian diaspora in Israel to discuss the current situation and potential needs for Latvia’s support.
