On 17 September, the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, met with Minister for Economics, Ralfs Nemiro, at the Riga Castle to discuss the current state of Latvian economy.
President of Latvia was interested in Minister Nemiro’s vision for attracting investments and boosting exports, reduction of shadow economy, introduction of feed-in tariff, fixing the construction industry and migration policy. Meeting also focused on wages, employee competencies and productivity of the economy.
Minister Nemiro pointed out that information and communication technologies (ICT) will become the fastest-growing sector of the economy in coming 5-10 years. Minister for Economics assured the President that audit of the industry will identify the challenges facing the strategic national-level infrastructure development projects and Ministry will draft legislative proposal for better public procurement rules to improve the overall situation in the construction sector.
