Egils Levits and Krišjānis Kariņš talked about prevention of economic recession caused by Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. President Levits underlined the need to invest smartly into different sectors to ensure better outcomes. ‘I also believe that it is crucial to ensure financial support for higher education. At the same time, we must continue moving towards higher education reforms,’ said Egils Levits.
Stressing the social significance of culture, President of Latvia noted that culture is another sector that should receive financial assistance to overcome the crisis. Egils Levits also emphasised the importance of consulting experts of non-governmental organisations and possible easing of restrictions for amateur choirs looking to resume rehearsals. Prime Minister Kariņš told the President that these topics will be discussed during today’s government meeting.
