Today, in Berlin, President of Latvia Egils Levits met with Norbert Lammert, President of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (Konrad Adenauer Foundation) to discuss the role of non-governmental actors and citizens in building the future of Europe and political dialogue between Latvia and Germany.
President Levits gave a lot of praise to Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung for everything it has done for Latvia, also in terms of supporting the Riga Conference.
Egils Levits emphasised that significant widening of personal civil liberties in recent decades has created a lot of demand for education and public awareness about how politics are made, and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung has contributed enormously to boosting these areas in Latvia.
Norbert Lammert presented Foundation’s current global operations and praised Baltics for showing the best results over the last three decades.
President Levits and President Lammert both agreed that Conference on the future of Europe is the best way to involve the citizens of the European Union more closely in deciding where Europe is headed in the future.
