On 19 January, in Davos, President of Latvia Egils Levits met with President of Swiss Confederation Alain Berset.
Presidents discussed the national position of Switzerland on export of Swiss-manufactured weapons to Ukraine. Freezing of Swiss assets of Russian oligarchs was another topic discussed by Levits and Berset, who also pledged full solidarity with Ukraine, while President Levits specifically underlined the importance of continued support to Ukraine. Such comprehensive support, especially military, would enable Ukraine to continue defending its national sovereignty, while also protecting values and security of European democracies.
Considering the inevitable impact of Russian war against Ukraine on European security, heads of Latvia and Switzerland also discussed international security. President of Latvia wished Switzerland successful UN Security Council tenure in 2023–2024. He also urged Switzerland to share this vital experience with Latvia which could take a seat on UN Security Council in 2025.
