President of Latvia Egils Levits met with musicians and management of Kyiv Soloists, a Ukrainian national chamber ensemble currently touring Latvia, at the Riga Castle on 19 April.
‘I know your thoughts are with Ukraine, your families and loved ones you left home. We have no doubt Ukraine will overcome this challenge and win the war. I hope you will not stop making music which now carries double the significance it used to. All spectators and listeners will continue to listen to your music. We hope your tour will end with safe return home,’ President of Latvia Egils Levits said to musicians.
President Levits told musicians about military help and humanitarian aid provided by Latvia to Ukraine and how Latvia advocates for Ukraine in the West. Musicians and management of national chamber ensemble Kyiv Soloists thanked Latvian president and people for helping Ukrainians survive the war. They also thanked Riga for having them and giving the opportunity to continue the tour.
Kyiv Soloists started their European tour in early 2022 and on 24 February, while in Italy, received the news of Russian invasion of Ukraine. Unable to return home, national chamber ensemble and leading European concert organisers agreed to extend the European tour of Kyiv Soloists indefinitely. The tour has now reached Latvia.
