“Latvia is aware of the opportunities offered by ICT in promoting our country's growth; therefore, we are planning to invest another 640 million euros in the form of public and private financing into the development of that sector. Currently, Latvia is among the global leaders in terms of ICT infrastructure availability and quality. In order to make full use of the benefits of digitization for the growth of our national economy, we need reliable and strong partners to support our innovative ideas and new products, allowing them reach the consumers beyond our borders,” stressed President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis when meeting with Vice President of Microsoft Corporation Ms Toni Townes-Whitley in New York, USA, on 19 September 2017.

The President of Latvia noted that Latvia and Microsoft Corporation had a common vision of a reliable and secure environment for databased investments. The co-operation memorandum signed at the end of previous year confirms the statement. In his turn, a partnership agreement within the Microsoft Public Sector Security Program signed during the visit to New York, will promote the cooperation between Microsoft Corporation and government experts in exchanging information and materials on security threats, malware, and other security issues related to Microsoft products and services.

“This cooperation will strengthen our national cybersecurity capabilities and facilitate the security of public sector and whole society,” stated the President of Latvia.

“Latvia aims at becoming a databased society in the future and to consolidate among the smart technology leaders in the world. The work done so far, making the data at the disposal of state authorities available and allowing their use for commercial purposes are a big step towards achieving that objective,” admitted Raimonds Vējonis.
