The President of Latvia thanks the US Congress for supporting the Baltic Security Initiative, which is critical for European and global security

On 8 July, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with US Senate Minority Leader Addison Mitchell McConnell III in Washington to discuss the security situation in Europe, support for Ukraine, and collaboration with the countries of the Indo-Pacific region.                                                        

The meeting also addressed promoting transatlantic relations and defence burden sharing, as well as the common position of the world's democracies regarding Russia and China.

During the meeting, the President of Latvia expressed gratitude to the US Congress for supporting the Baltic Security Initiative, which is critical for enhancing military capabilities. President Rinkēvičs also expressed the opinion that in order to strengthen security in Europe, it is necessary to contain Russia and provide all the necessary support to Ukraine to ensure its victory.
