On 6 September, President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs met with his Slovenian counterpart Nataša Pirc Musar to discuss bilateral relations between Latvia and Slovenia, defence and trade cooperation, support to Ukraine and situation in Western Balkans. Meeting was aligned with the Three Seas Summit in Bucharest, Romania.
President Rinkēvičs thanked President Musar for excellent Latvia-Slovenia relations and Slovenia’s contribution to enhanced national security of Latvia. ‘We are pleased with the on-going political dialogue between our countries and close cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats. We deeply appreciate Slovenian troops of the NATO enhanced Forward Battle Group Latvia – they are crucial for Latvia’s national security and overall regional security,’ President of Latvia underlined.
President stressed the significance of continued support to Ukraine. Ukraine must receive all necessary military support and assistance for achieving its reform and European integration goals. Strong efforts to hold all Russian political leaders and government officials accountable for crimes of aggression and war must be continued, he added.
President of Latvia underlined the importance of further European integration of Western Balkans. ‘It is important in the current geopolitical climate for Western Balkans to remain committed to European integration. Western Balkans are facing various challenges. We must collectively help these countries and region excel and become part of European values and common foreign and security policy,’ Edgars Rinkēvičs said.
