Valsts prezidents pateicas par neatkarību balsojušajiem Augstākās Padomes deputātiem par vēsturiskās atmiņas uzturēšanu sabiedrībā
Today, the President of Latvia Egils Levits met with members of the 4 May Declaration Club at the Riga Castle. 4 May Declaration Club unites members of the Supreme Council who voted for Latvia’s independence. President thanked the members of the Club for their role in restoring Latvia’s independence and active efforts in perpetuating society’s collective memory.

‘You are opinion leaders even today. You play an important role in preserving the collective memory and you also take part in historical debate to give a first-hand account of events surrounding the restoration of independence,’ said Egils Levits. President also praised the involvement and active stance of former MPs on current domestic affairs.

President and members of the Club discussed the drafting of Declaration of Independence in the context of the forthcoming conference marking the 30th anniversary of its adoption on 4 May 2020. The historic vote on the declaration restoring Latvia’s independence was taken by members of the Supreme Council on 4 May 1990. MPs also took the opportunity to ask President Levits questions about his position on various current challenges and agree on further cooperation.
