Today at the Riga Castle, President of Latvia Egils Levits thanked the players, coaching staff, support staff and management of the Latvian national ice hockey team for their historic victory at the World Ice Hockey Championships by winning the 3rd place.
"Yesterday we were together. This day will remain in the historical memory of our nation. Later people will say: 'That was the year we won in Tampere!' said President of Latvia E. Levits at the ceremony honouring the Latvian national ice hockey team.
"I would like to present you with the President's Medal for three reasons. Firstly, for the exciting and dramatic game. It was unique! Secondly, for your willpower, endurance and motivation to win even from a bad position. And thirdly, above all, for the sense of unity you gave to our nation. Such moments are rare. Yesterday was such a moment, and you gave it to us!" said the President of Latvia.
